The activities I participated in as a Red Innovator allowed me to feel and experience new things. To start with, it allowed me to encounter the concept of disaster risk reduction and resilience for the first time. With my fellow Red Innovators, as a group, we defined and categorized the important key words related to disaster risk reduction, and created a video explaining them. By doing so, we were able to fully understand the concept of disaster risk reduction, and realize the importance of this particular field. Thus, the 6 month period of Red Innovator activities was a valuable experience for me.

[Key Tasks]
  • Preparing presentation material for UNISDR
  • Environmental campaign activities
  • Attend the 3rd conference and produce a video of the concept of disaster-related discussions

I was always interested in volunteer activities, safety and disaster. I happened to support the Red Innovator college student volunteer at the Korean Red Cross homepage. It seems that the new start-up is as exciting as the first one. I wanted to learn more about concepts, understanding, and teamwork about English ability, disaster and resilience to communicate with foreigners, and what I wanted to achieve through my college student Red Innovator activities. I am very sorry that I have not attended many conferences during the semester, but I am very proud that I have made a valuable experience through this activity, and I have been a member of the college student Red Innovator Volunteer Service and served in the Asia Pacific Resilience Center.

[Key Tasks]
  • Presentation and scheduling of participants at the 1st conference
  • Attend the 3rd conference and produce a video of the concept of disaster-related discussions
  • Support for Red Cross Save&Share Festival activities

It was a great opportunity to participate in a good activity which is organized by the Asia-Pacific Disaster Resilience Center. When I first took the role of analyzing the resiliency case that I didn't know about APDRC, I don’t know what to do. But listening to other supporters' announcements, I was able to gain a better understanding of the resilience. Later, in coming up with the idea for an environmental campaign, it also reflected how much the individual had been damaging the environment. Analysis of disasters was one of the most difficult activities, but that was the most gained. In analyzing the case, it became a meaningful time to define the terms of the disaster and discuss the meaning. Thank you so much for being with such meaningful activities in the field that I first became interested in.

[Key Tasks]
  • Prepare presentation materials and investigate resilience cases
  • Attend the second meeting and take a video of how to use VR
  • Attend the 3rd conference and produce a video of the concept of disaster-related discussions

My name is Sarah Palma, I’m from Switzerland and I’ve been volunteering for the Korean Red Cross during two months in the Asia Pacific Disaster Resilience Centre in Seoul. I had an incredible experience helping the Centre with translations, reports summaries, the creation of web pages, newsletters and also learnt how to set VR equipments. I got the chance to see all the process of campaign launching and learnt how to deal with the various obstacles that we found on our way. My volunteer period was an incredibly enriching experience shared with inspiring collaborators with whom I had a huge pleasure working and I wish that I will have the opportunity to help again as much as I can!
